This year, Southeast Gas increased each scholarship award from $1,500 to $2,000, continuing its investment in the next generation of community leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEach of these students represents the very best of our communities,\u201d said Greg Henderson, President and CEO of Southeast Gas. \u201cTheir commitment to service, leadership, and academic excellence shows that the future of Southeast Alabama is in strong hands. At Southeast Gas, we are dedicated to ensuring the next generation gets the support and recognition they deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 100 students applied for the 2026 scholarships, with recipients selected through a rigorous and impartial evaluation process conducted by three independent judges. Applications were reviewed using a comprehensive scoring system that assessed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 Academic achievement, including GPA and ACT scores<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 Financial need, based on household income<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 Extracurricular involvement, including participation in school activities and academic honors<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 Essay submissions, with a strong emphasis on demonstrated commitment to community service<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 Depth and duration of service, including involvement beyond school-related activities and sustained engagement over multiple years<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants could earn up to 41 total points, ensuring a balanced evaluation of both academic performance and meaningful community impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis scholarship program reflects the values that define our region\u2014service, hard work, and a commitment to lifting others up,\u201d said Jack Tibbs, Mayor of Eufaula and Chairman of the Southeast Gas Board of Directors. \u201cThese students have gone above and beyond to make a difference, and it is an honor to recognize their achievements and help support their future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2026 scholarship recipients have contributed to a wide range of community efforts, including volunteering with organizations such as the Salvation Army, Wiregrass United Way, and local food pantries; supporting health initiatives like Relay for Life and blood drives; participating in leadership programs such as Boys and Girls State and student service organizations; and organizing hands-on projects like clothing drives, school clean-ups, and community outreach programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2026 Southeast Gas Community Service Scholarship recipients are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addysen Sheppard (Abbeville High School); Jessa Ann Dubose (Andalusia High School); Kayla Fields (Ashford High School); Avery Brunson (Brantley High School); Allie Campbell (Carroll High School); Lola Drinkwater (Charles Henderson High School); Keryiah Williams (Cottonwood High School); Katherine Barefield (Dale County High School); Shaniya Harris (Daleville High School); Emma Sanders (Dothan High School); James Wilson (Elba High School); Anna Jane Lavender (Enterprise High School); Thomas Wingate (Eufaula High School); Janiyah Fails (Greenville High School); Murphy Mims (Headland High School); Cody Elliot (Highland Home High School); Payten Landry (Luverne High School); Madison Hudson (New Brockton High School); Caroline Short (Opp High School); Brooklyn Jones (Pike County High School); Kayla Hughes (Pleasant Home High School); Connor Blackwell (Red Level High School); Charlee Chandler (Rehobeth High School); Valah Brooks (Russell County High School); and Faithe Eib (Straughn High School).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the program\u2019s inception in 2015, Southeast Gas has awarded more than $375,000 in scholarships to 244 students, reinforcing its longstanding commitment to education and community development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Established in 1952, Southeast Gas serves more than 33,000 customers across 36 communities in Southeast Alabama and is owned by 14 member cities.
