Small Businesses: The Heartbeat of Southeast Alabama

Southeast Gas is proud to serve a region full of thriving, resilient small businesses, which are the heart and soul of our communities. Across each of the 14 cities we serve, small businesses create spaces for fellowship, provide essential goods and services, and contribute meaningfully to the local and national economy.
We’re proud to celebrate National Small Business Week, May 5 through 9, and recognize the vital role these businesses play in the fabric of our region. Southeast Gas supports local businesses in a variety of ways, from community development efforts to targeted business incentives and energy rebates. Through these initiatives, we strive to make a meaningful impact on our communities and play a part in their broader success.
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, Alabama is home to more than 422,000 small businesses, making up 99.4 percent of all businesses in the state. Nearly 46 percent of Alabama’s workforce is employed by a small business. These figures highlight just how essential small businesses are to the economic health and everyday life of our communities.
At Southeast Gas, our mission is to serve – and that means more than delivering natural gas. It means showing up for our communities, supporting the people who call them home, and helping build places where families and businesses can thrive. Whether it’s through community partnerships or simply being a reliable neighbor, we’re proud to invest in the heart of our towns. And when we support small businesses, we’re not just boosting the local economy, we are strengthening the fabric of our communities.
This Small Business Week, we encourage you to support a local business. Whether it’s grabbing your morning coffee from the neighborhood café, shopping at a local boutique, or simply sharing a kind word with a small business owner. Everyone can make a difference by shopping locally. A little support goes a long way.
